Panda Cotton

This yarn is BEAUTIFUL. Their colors ROCK. That said, I cannot produce a sock out of this stuff. It is splitty, ravelly, I can't get gauge, etc. etc. etc. Of course I own a zillion balls of it. I decided to experiment and knitted the lace pattern for the Branching Out scarf and wet it and blocked it. I've since decided I Like It and unorthodox as it may be I'm going to do the scarf in it. (This is not the blocked tester, this is the work in progress.

The KnitPicks Shimmer just wasn't right for this pattern. The solid areas didn't 'pop' and the holes didn't look like lace, they just looked like holes.

It was a good 3 day weekend even though I had work related stuff to attend. We rode our bikes and mostly ate healthy so it's all good.

I hope my tourist got her package for the Virtual Knitters Vacation Swap! It should have arrived Friday via UPS but I haven't heard!

Oh, thank you! I am grateful you have said that about Shimmer not being "right".

My first ever lace - in the Knitting Olympics - was knit with a most inappropriate yarn. I used Astra.
The pattern did not "pop" for me either, and my holes were just about invisible. It might have had a lot to do with my needle size. (The size was probably about 4.5 mm.)

I have retreated to knitting dishcloths since then - until I can regain my confidence.

Thank you for helping with that.

Forgot to mention that I was also knitting the "Branching Out" scarf.

there's a trick with the panda yarns, which is to do a couple swatches until you get used to handling it. a lot of the super soft new yarns do this...
i feel it's a slightly "advanced" or attention=requiring yarn - the diff between driving in town and atlanta rush hour or indie 500....
initially i went for sharp needles but now can use any.

i bet after doing the lace you would be fine to do a sock now!

Hi Lis,
I went to UPS and picked it up. What a dope I am. I gave the KVVS people my name, work address, and my home city state and zip. No wonder UPS couldn't find me. Thanks so much for the blog comment to point me in the right direction!!

Now, onto the gushing. I LOVED everything you sent. You were right about the color of yarn. I've never tried Lorna's Laces and am very much looking forward to it. I'm heading to my blog in a bit to display a picture and gush more appropriately.

Thanks again so much!!!!!!
